June 21, 2018 by Tech Recode

This week, Facebook will be removing its Trending Topics section which is shown on the right side on desktop version of Facebook. It was launched in 2014 to help users discover the best content from all across Facebook. In 2016, Facebook made it purely managed by algorithms that resulted in many scandals like electorate tampering and misinformation ads. As a result, this caused Facebook to step forward to close its "Trending Topics" section.

Since Facebook is closing its one service, it said that Facebook to going to find new and different ways to spread news. Currently, Facebook is testing its “breaking news” tag, which is being tested by 80 publishers. Till now, this test looks successful. However, real results can only be seen once Facebook will open it to all publishers on Facebook.
