Bruises, also known as contusions, are caused by broken or damaged blood vessels. The raised area of a bruise results from blood leaking from the injured blood vessels into the tissues. Typically, bruises are dark, purplish in color and fade over time. In most cases, bruises go away on their own within five to seven days, but below are some ways to lessen the pain and reduce the visibility of a bruise.

Ice the Bruised Area
Applying ice can reduce blood flow around the injured area which can reduce the amount of blood leaks into the surrounding tissue. So, apply the ice 10 to 20 minutes, twice a day. This can help tone down the coloring of your bruise and can reduce swelling.

Wrap the bruised area to decrease the blood flow, which can prevent blood from gathering at the bruise area. This can help reduce swelling and pain.

Apply Heat
You can apply heat after the first 24 hours to boost circulation and increase blood flow. This will help to clear away the blood trapped beneath the skin. This will help reduce swelling and relieve pain.

Rest if possible
Resting will reduce blood flow to the bruise which can help it to heal quickly.

Get some Vitamin C
Vitamin C has anti-flammatory properties and is known to help build collagen tissue. This can help promote the healing of a bruise. So, eat foods like oranges and dark, leafy green vegetables to ensure you are getting enough vitamin C to get rid of a bruise quickly.

Vitamin K cream
Vitamin K can help stop the bleeding as it is an essential nutrient that helps with blood clotting.
